Elo Rating

How the chess-style Elo rating system works for traders.

TradeVera uses an Elo rating system — the same concept used in chess — to rank traders relative to each other. Instead of comparing move quality, it compares daily trading performance.

How it works

Every night, a batch process runs that evaluates all active traders' daily performance. Each trader's results are compared across the field — stronger relative performance pushes your rating up, while weaker days bring it down. Elo ratings adjust based on expected vs. actual outcomes.

Key details

  • Starting Elo: All traders begin at 1200
  • K-Factor: New traders use K=40 (faster rating changes) during placement; established traders use K=20
  • Activation threshold: Elo matchmaking activates when there are 25+ active traders on the platform
  • Career & Season Elo: Both a lifetime Elo and a per-season Elo are tracked separately
  • Peak Rating: Your highest-ever Elo is displayed alongside your current rating
Elo ratings reward consistent performance over time. A trader who steadily outperforms peers will climb the rankings, even with modest daily returns.
